Making a difference, one act at a time

Over the years, the United Kingdom Chapter of Adventist Guyanese (UCAG) has carried out a wide range of projects serving communities in Guyana, the wider Caribbean, and here in the UK. Our work began with a focus on the areas in Guyana where help was urgently needed.

Our first projects centred around communities such as Kwakwani, Sophia, and three orphanages located in Georgetown, East Coast Demerara, and Berbice. We provided food, clothing, toiletries, and school supplies including books, backpacks, school shoes, and stationery. We also contributed resources to help develop the library in Kwakwani.

UCAG has consistently supported hospitals such as Davis Memorial, Georgetown Hospital, and Fort Wellington, as well as senior care homes like Uncle Eddie’s and Millicent Greaves. Donations have included bedding, incontinence pads, medication, wheelchairs, and crutches. At Millicent Greaves, we were also able to supply a fridge, cooker, and kitchen utensils. Additionally, we hosted a successful workshop for their staff and local healthcare workers, covering food hygiene, customer care, and manual handling.

More recently, we extended our support to the Guyana Sickle Cell Association. Our contributions included care hampers with food items, pain relief, towels, and books for children. We also helped reinstate their Facebook page, assisted with the final editing of their revised brochure, and provided financial support for committee members attending meetings.

To support our Caribbean neighbours, UCAG sent essential items to families affected by Hurricane Irma, and funded skilled workers from Guyana to travel to Dominica to help rebuild homes. After the destruction caused by Hurricane Beryl, we contributed financial aid and supported the rebuilding efforts.

Here in the United Kingdom, UCAG continues to make a meaningful impact through our support for local homeless initiatives, including donations to the Advent Centre and the High Wycombe Winter Homelessness Project.
